Nigerian Army investigates viral video of soldier assaulting motorist in Lagos

The Nigerian Army says it will be investigating the viral video of a soldier assaulting a driver on Moloney Street, Lagos Island yesterday July 17th.

The soldier simply identified as Duru, drove against traffic and in the process, hit the vehicle of his victim. Instead of apologising, he turned agressive, damaged the vehicle of the victim some more, came down from his car and assaulted the victim. The uniformed man was riding in an ash Acura Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with number plate Oyo AE966YYY

The lady who shared the video online, wrote

“This happened around 5:16 p.m. on Moloney Street, Lagos Island opposite the Police Office/Kam Salem house. We were on the right side of the road coming from Obalende but had to stop as there was an oncoming vehicle in our way. This vehicle should have been on the left side,” the lady captioned the video.

“We hooted several times but the vehicle refused to move. We then heard other disgruntled drivers murmur, ‘na soldier oh’ and so we reversed in an attempt to wriggle our way out peacefully.

“But to our surprise, the soldier reversed and intentionally drove forward to hit our car. These videos show the altercation right from when we were wrongly hit.”

Reacting to the public outcry that has greeted the video, the Nigerian Army says it will be investigating the matter.

The  General Officer Commanding 81 Division Maj.-Gen Musa Yusuf while reacting to the video said: “Intelligence and Military Police commanders are handling that. We are trying to trace the soldier and where he is serving.”
