Xenophobia: Air Peace to evacuate Nigerians from South Africa for free

Nigerian carrier, Air Peace Airlines is offering free flights to Nigerians willing to return home from South Africa due to the unrest caused by the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreign nationals.

The spokesman for the ministry of foreign affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye made this known in a statement on Wednesday, September 4,

According to the statement, Air Peace volunteered to send an aircraft from Friday, September 6, to evacuate Nigerians who wish to return to Nigeria free of charge.

The statements reads, “The general public is hereby advised to inform their relatives in South Africa to take advantage of this laudable gesture.

“Interested Nigerians are therefore advised to liaise with the High Commission of Nigeria in Pretoria and the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg for further necessary arrangement.”

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the Airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olajide, said, “We cannot fold our hands and watch our fellow Nigerians being killed by South Africans.

“To this end, Air Peace is willing to support the Nigerian government‘s effort in this matter by deploying our B777 aircraft immediately to South Africa to evacuate Nigerians back home.”
