Mayweather Made So Much Money With The McGregor Fight, He May Now Be A Billionaire

Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather faced a lot of controversy over its merit, sporting integrity and point. But one thing is not up for debate: the fight is going to make everyone involved an enormous amount of money.

Floyd Mayweather has been so happy to flash and splash the cash down the years that ‘Money’ is his non-literal middle name. His habit of posting pictures of himself on Instagram surrounded by wads of cash will likely continue after this victory, perhaps with even large piles of notes.

Mayweather’s fight with Manny Pacquiao in May 2015 broke all sorts of pay-per-view records, leading to more than 4.5million purchases at an average cost of $99. TV revenue on its own is estimated to have broken $400million (£309million) for the bout.

Mayweather apparently walked away from his evening’s work with at least $180million.

How much will he take home from Mayweather-McGregor? Will it break records, and what can each fighter earn? Let’s find out:

What is the estimated fight purse?

The figure depends on a number of different variables, including pay-per-view sales, pricing structure in the UK, ticket sales and more.

Nevada State Athletic Commission confirmed on Friday night that the minimum each fighter will earn is $100million for Floyd Mayweather and $30million for Conor McGregor.

However, if PPV revenue stays in line with the Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, the fight purse is likely to be worth some $300million, with total revenues at $700million (£543.5million).

What will the split be?

A confidentiality agreement means the exact split will not be revealed. However, reports suggest the difference could be 70-30 or 75-25 in Mayweather’s favour.

What is the fight expected to make in pay-per-view revenues?

It depends on how many people pay $100 for the US broadcasters’ PPV. If they do, then $400million and more is not out of the question, especially if Conor McGregor’s trash talking ramps up. Additionally, the potential audience could be even wider still with McGregor attracting a huge following.

A TV deal with a UK broadcaster has not yet been struck, with negotiations ongoing.

How much money will the tickets make?

The fight will take place in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which has a capacity of around 20,000. Tickets are selling at a premium, with ringside seats going for between £18,000 and £30,000. Even those in the upper tier of the arena are going for more than £2,000.

Ticket receipts for Mayweather-Pacquiao totaled around £70million. With just under two months to go until the fight, interest is expected to grow further and is likely to get close to the figure of the 2015 bout.

How about sponsorship?

Our boxing correspondent Gareth A Davies exclusively revealed that Floyd Mayweather stands to make a remarkable £20million in sponsorship from attire alone on the night.

What are the estimated earnings for each fighter?

With the estimated revenues and splits in mind, $230 million for Mayweather and $70million for McGregor is not out of the question. Pay-per-view sales could change that figure.
