Coronavirus: FFK kicks against FG’s plans to accept medical kits from China

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, has opposed plans by the Federal government to receive medical kits and personnel from China to help in the battle of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 on Friday, said some Chinese companies in Nigeria have helped to purchase some medical kits in China and that a cargo aircraft would be sent to China in a few days to pickup the consignment as well as bring in some medical experts.

“I have been notified of medical supplies from China, courtesy of a group of Chinese companies working here in Nigeria. A special cargo aircraft shall leave Nigeria in a few days to collect the items which include commodities, personal protective equipment and ventilators. An 18-man team of Chinese medical experts including doctors, nurses and other medical advisers shall come along with the flight to assist us. I must at this juncture commend our frontline workers who are doing a great job in case identification and management.

As we prepare to contain COVID-19, we must not lose sight of other health challenges in our country. Routine health service must continue in our hospitals. Only a wing of tertiary health centres should be used for infected patients.” he said

FFK says this is not a good move. Taking to his Twitter handle to oppose it, he wrote

Mr. President, Do NOT allow 5G in Nigeria & if you have already done so burn it. Do NOT accept face masks & other accessories from the Chinese to help prevent coronavirus. Do NOT accept help from Chinese doctors. Do NOT accept any anti-Coronavirus vaccines from ANYONE.
