2-year old A.J. Burgess was born without kidneys and is in desperate need of one. His father, Anthony Dickerson is a perfect match, however, he recently violated the terms of his probation and because of that, he is being prevented from donating the kidney which will save his son’s life.

Dickerson was released from prison this month, but he was arrested again for violating his parole. He was possessing a firearm “during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.”

When the time came for him to donate his kidney to his son, Emory Hospital in Atlanta refused because of his probation situation. They decided that he needed to be on good behavior for three to four months before donating his kidney. They informed him that he’ll have to wait till 2018 before they re-evaluate him. Meanwhile, his young son is urgently in need of a kidney transplant.

A.J.’s mom, Carmella fears that her son may not make it because he needs bladder surgery and his body is failing. The only other option is to place the child on the wait list, but that could take years before they find a match.

Social media users have now started a petition demanding that Emory Hospital perform the transplant surgery.
