Suspected armed robbers, drug dealers burn down police station in Abia state; free 2 inmates

A police station at Ahiaukwu Olokoro, in Umuahia South LGA, Abia state was on Tuesday burnt down by hoodlums suspected to armed robbers and drug dealers.

The hoodlums attacked the police station at night and wreaked havoc. They burnt one operational vehicle attached to the police station, as well as one keke napep parked at the station.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi, confirmed the attack. He said some policemen acting on a tip-off, had raided the Ahiaukwu Olokoro area and arrested four suspected drug dealers and armed robbers. After the arrest, while officers in the post were about to transfer the suspects to the police division at Ubakala, hoodlums attacked them and aided in the escape of two of the suspects earlier detained. The hoodlums then returned to the police station and set the building on fire.

Ogbizi said no life was lost and no arms were taken away from the station. He also said 7 of the hoodlums who carried out the attack were later arrested.
