Couple who filmed themselves raping two young children are jailed for 94 years

A husband and wife who filmed themselves raping two young children have been jailed for a total of 94 years.

In the eight-minute video, Matthew Maynard and Diane McCracken Maynard, both 35, were seen sexually abusing two children who are both younger than 13 and are no strangers to the couple.

The couple were each jailed for 47 years on Monday after they admitted abusing the youngsters. They pleaded guilty to crimes including rape and first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, 13 months after they were first arrested in January 2018.

The couple saved the clip of them raping the children to on a Google drive. Their abuse was exposed after sheriffs were alerted to child pornography being found at the couple’s home, the Fayetteville Observer reported.

Diane’s arrest came as a surprise to those who knew her because she constantly put up Facebook posts appealing for information on missing children until the date of her arrest. She also shared news stories about other children who’d been abused.

Diane describes herself as a “loving mother of a blended family” who “loves each of my kids the same.”  She has no previous criminal convictions.

Speaking after the couple were jailed, Onslow County Prosecutor Ernie Lee said: “These are the type of offenses that shock the conscience and this office places a substantial amount of resources in prosecuting these crimes.”
