Paedophile who microwaved man’s head and got girl, 12, to eat it commits suicide

A suspected paedophile and cannibal has died by suicide while awaiting trial in Russia.

Arkady Sverov, 22, allegedly killed Alexander Popovich, 21, then microwaved his head on the highest setting for three minutes. He then gouged out his eye, boiled it and ate it along with his heart and brain. Zverov also encouraged his “girlfriend”, 12, to eat it.

The girl told police that she used a frying pan to cook and eat Alexander’s heart after Arkady asked her to. She described the taste of the heart as “too sweet” but said “the brains turned to be much more tasty”. She is also said to have confessed that she stabbed the victim and opened his abdomen with a knife after his death before cooking his meat.

The girl is still in custody but will face no charges for cannibalism as she is below the age of criminal responsibility in Russia.

Arkady Zverov confessed to the crimes before he died and showed detectives a video. He also admitted having sex with schoolgirl Valeria, 12, who he took 1,500 miles away from Sochi where she lived to St Petersburg without her parents’ permission.

Four months ago, he attempted suicide but went into a coma. He has now died under guard in a hospital.

His victim’s mother, Galina Popovich, said she would not weep for the death of her son’s killer.

She said: “There is Karma after all – and it made its decision.”

The criminal case will be closed now as Zverov is dead and the girl is too young.
