Photo: Teacher remanded in prison for defiling, impregnating 14-year-old pupil

The Lagos state police command have arrested and arraigned 34-year-old, Quaseem Olayiwola, a teacher in a school in the state, for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 14-year-old pupil in the state.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Donny Raphael, who brought Olayiwola before the Ikeja Magistrate court on Thursday February 28th, said he committed the indecent act between October 2018 and January 2019 in a hotel. The father of the victim discovered his daughter was pregnant and reported it to the police who then transferred the case to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja for further investigation.

He was subsequently arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba on one count of defilement.

The charge against him read

“That you, Quaseem Olayiwola ‘M’, between October 2018 and January 2019 at Olubar Hotel C&S area, Ayobo, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile a 14-year-old girl by having intercourse with her and impregnating her. You thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

The Chief Magistrate, Bola Osunsami, ordered that Olayiwola be remanded in prison custody pending the outcome of legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions on the matter.
