A two-week-old baby, Prince Ouko, who was stolen from Kenyatta National Hospital two days ago has finally been found in Kawangware, Nairobi on Tuesday.

On Sunday, February 18, Police released a screenshot of CCTV camera footage capturing the moment a woman walked away with the twin boy.

The mother of the twins, Jane Kerubo had been taken to the facility on Sunday around 2am with breathing difficulties. It took nine hours for the mother to start receving treatment and as she was being wheeled to the ward by her husband Job Nyatiti Ouko and sister Naomi Leo, the family trusted two women to hold the babies. One of the ladies, Lucy Kwamboka, who was in police custody, alerted the family that the other woman had disappeared with the other twin. The hospital’s security staff were notified and pursued the woman only to find that she had escaped on a motorbike.

Job Nyatiti Ouko confirmed that the boy was found in the house of the woman suspected to have stolen him at the hospital.

Mr Ouko’s heart wrenching story was aired on Citizen TV on Monday night, pleading for the safe return of the infant. He gave out his number during the TV interview and a Good Samaritan, who was following the live programme, called and informed him about his neighbor, who returned home with a baby two days ago.

“Someone called me and said that a woman matching the CCTV photo had been seen with a newborn in Kawangare and was not breastfeeding the baby,” Nyatiti said.

“We found the baby just as she was about to leave the estate but now police are after her, she is yet to be arrested,” Nyatiti added.

The married woman, identified as “Edna”, is reported to have suffered a miscarriage recently, and according to her neighbours it was suspect, when she returned home clutching a baby.

She was allegedly planning to travel to Kisii on Tuesday, February 20 “to start a new life with the stolen baby”.

The stolen boy’s father together with his brother and area chief, stormed the woman’s home and found Prince Ouko crying and still in the same clothes he was wearing when he was stolen. He was also wrapped in the same shawl captured in images circulated by police.

Angry neighbour’s almost lynched the woman once they learnt of the crime but police arrived and took her away.

Even before the neighbours learnt the woman was the culprit, they were concerned about a baby in the woman’s house who could not stop crying.
