“They called my friends and I monkeys” – South African radio presenter allegedly assaulted by group of white guys in racially motivated attack

SABC TV and radio presenter Samora Mangesi has opened up about being attacked in West Rand, Gauteng.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Mangesi alleged that he and his friends were attacked by a group of white guys that needed help with their vehicle.

According to Mangesi, he and his friends stopped to help the group after their car overturned. When they approached the guys, Mangesi said that instead of accepting their assistance the guys called him a “monkey” and started attacking him.

“When we engaged them on why we were being called such, they beat me up until I was unconscious,” he said.

Mangesi said that while being put inside the ambulance, one of the guys tried to run his friend over with his bakkie.

The TV presenter said that after trying to convince himself to let it go, he was informed that this was not the first time this had happened in the area.

“My friend’s neighbour who was driving past at the time and witnessed the whole thing says it has also happened to him … These incidences always seem so far removed until they happen to you.”

Mangesi has opened up a case against his attackers.
