Two people killed and police men injured as suspected cultists, Hausa traders clash in Delta State

Last night, there was pandemonium at Cable Point Quarters in Asaba, Delta State following a fight that broke out between some Hausa traders and a group of suspected cultists.

The fight, which broke out after a cult group allegedly attacked some Hausa traders over inexplicable differences, left three police men severely injured and two of the cultists feared killed.

It was gathered that some shops within the area were allegedly looted and destroyed as residents scampered for their dear lives. Two vehicles were also destroyed. An eyewitness, Jude Nwani, told our correspondent that the fight was caused by a disagreement over sales of gold materials and some dollars between the suspected cultists and the Hausa traders.

The cultists allegedly stabbed the Hausa traders on their hands and left them in a pool of blood, a situation other Hausa traders mobilized immediately to avenge.  But the police Commissioner in the state, Mustafa Muhammad, who confirmed that there was a fight between some Hausa traders and suspected cultists to journalists in Asaba, disclosed that six persons have been arrested.

He added that some policemen in their attempt to maintain law and order sustained unexpected injuries, stressing that they are currently being treated at the hospital. He said, “Investigation is on going, and we have arrested six persons in connection with the fight which occurred at about 9.30pm. The police have restored peace in the area as two of the suspected cultists were feared killed in the process. We want to assure that those involved in the act will be brought to book.”
