Jovante Cunningham, who was a backup singer for R Kelly at the time recalls meeting Aaliyah. “Aaliyah [was] very tom-boyish, glasses, braces, no swag.” Cunningham says the took Aaliyah out often and they knew her because was Kelly’s manager’s niece.

She goes on to share a story about witnessing R Kelly have sex with an underage Aaliyah. She said the door to R. Kelly’s room swung open and it was “obvious” that he was having sex with her and she was 15 – R. Kelly was 27. But raping her wasn’t the only thing he did to that 15 yr old shining light.
